Today in Delft you can visit the traditional ceramic factory, the Royal Delft or Porceleyne Fles, which is still selling its tasteful, high quality products. Explore the hidden streets and historical monuments in the center of Delft.

Rotterdam and The Hague

Your visit to Delft can be easily combined with trips to The Hague (Den Haag), Rotterdam or Miniature city Madurodam. The Hague is the 3rd largest city in the Netherlands and the seat of the national government. The Hague is full of history, museums and art Gallery. The city is also located near the coast of the North Sea, Scheveningen. You will find the headguarters of several international organisations in The hague; the embassy of many country’s, including the International court of Justice in the famous Peace Palace.

The Binnenhof (inner court), dating back to 1248 and linked to the building of a palace, has been the residence of the ruling Dutch aristocracy and today houses both chambers of the Parliament. The 17th century Mauritshuis houses Rembrandt’s The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp and Vermeer’s view of Delft and serves as one of Holland’s most important museums.

Rotterdam is the second largest city in The Netherlands. A major economic and logistic centre, Rotterdam is Europe’s largest seaport. Rotterdam is known for its University, riverside setting, lively cultural life, maritime heritage and modern architecture. The destruction of the city centre during World War 2 has resulted in a varied architectual landscape, including skyscrapers designed by architects such as Rem Koolhaas and Piet Blom.

The extensive distribution system including rail, roads, and waterways have earned Rotterdam the nicknames “Gateway to Europe” and “Gateway to the World”.
